Born in Boston in 1856, Louis Henry Sullivan was the was the leader of the so-called "Chicago School," the group of architects that put a decisive imprint on the imagination of U.S. architecture toward the end of the 1800s. His design, with Dankmar Adler, of the Chicago Auditorium was the first realized expression of a vision tending toward an organic and harmonic relationship of the architectonic parts.
